The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Warren Henry R. Albrecht, Jr., United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Second Lieutenant Albrecht distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as a Platoon Lead of the 3d Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy during a combat air assault in 1967. On reaching the landing zone, the unit was confronted by a murderous volume of automatic and semi-automatic weapons fire from a well concealed Viet Cong force. Without regard for personal safety and fully cognizant of the perils of the situation, Second Lieutenant Albrecht immediately moved to the location of his lead element. While in the process of this courageous deed he was wounded by enemy small arms fire. Ignoring the intense pain of his wounds, Second Lieutenant Albrecht continued his mission and reaching the forward element called for, and accurately directed, the artillery fire on the Viet Cong position. Only when the pain of his wounded became unbearable did Second Lieutenant Albrecht allow himself to be evacuated to safety. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Albrecht, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
