The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Sergeant Alva Eadens (MCSN: 79577), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism, coolness under fire and excellent judgment in the performance of duty in an engagement at Telpaneca, Nicaragua, on 19 September 1927. Sergeant Eadens, as section sergeant in charge of twenty Marines of the garrison at Telpaneca on this occasion, repeatedly exposed himself to grave danger in order to provide ammunition where needed, directed the fire with telling effect, and by his conduct was an important factor in repulsing the attack.
