James Van Sice graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut, Class of 1974. He returned to the Academy to service as the 38th Superintendent of the Coast Guard Academy from June 2005 to January 2007, and retired as a U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral in 2007.
