Merton Stoffle was commissioned in the Coast Guard Reserve after receiving a Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University, and subsequently a Masters Degree in Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1940. He retired as a U. S. Coast Guard Reserve Rear Admiral in 1972.
