Peter Rots graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut, Class of 1957. In 1998 he was reprimanded for conduct unbecoming an officer and gentleman and dereliction of duty, and removed from the Rear Admiral (Upper Half) promotion list, and retired as a U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral (Lower Half) in 1998.
