Edward Jones was appointed a cadet in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1904, and was commissioned through the School of Instruction of the Revenue Cutter Service in 1906. He served as the 17th Superintendent of the Coast Guard Academy from 1935 to 1940, and retired as a U.S. Coast Guard Vice Admiral in 1946.
