Kenneth Harrison was transferred from the Bureau of Customs to the U.S. Coast Guard in 1938. He was appointed a U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Rear Admiral in 1956, making him the first officer in the Coast Guard Reserve to achieved that rank. He retired as a United States Coast Guard Rear Admiral in 1961.
