(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Pharmacist’s Mate First Class Henry William Kauppi, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroic conduct in supervising the treatment and evacuation of more than 150 casualties under heavy mortar and small arms fire while serving at a Medical Corpsman attached to Company F, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division, in action against the Japanese at Peleliu Island, from 15 September 1944 to 26 October 1944.
