Butler, Jr., United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroic conduct as a Hospital Corpsman attached to Company E, Second Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division, in action against the Japanese, at Peleliu, Palau Islands, on 17 September 1944.
