    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Lawrence H. Butt, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties as Torpedo Data Computer Operator aboard the U.S.S. ASPRO (SS-309) during the FIFTH War Patrol of that Submarine from 10 September to 14 October 1944. Lieutenant Butt rendered valuable assistance to his Commanding Officer in conducting attacks against enemy shipping which resulted in sinking enemy vessels totaling more than 25,000 tons, and in damaging more than 8,500 tons. His skill and sound judgment contributed materially to the success of his vessel. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to the officers and men in his ship and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
