Shacklette, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Senior Medical Officer on board the U.S.S. SANTEE (CVE-29), in the Philippine Islands, from 25 to 28 October 1944.
