The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Torpedoman’s Mate First Class Frederick D. Sanderson, United States Navy, for heroic conduct in assisting and effecting the rescue of a trapped shipmate aboard the U.S.S. LAFFEY, during the night action off Savo Island on 13 November 1942.
