Peterson, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Fighting Squadron FORTY-ONE (VF-41), embarked in U.S.S. INDEPENDENCE (CVL-22), over the Philippine Islands area on 15 December 1944.
