Hutcherson, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Torpedo Squadron FORTY-FOUR (VT-44), embarked in U.S.S. LANGLEY (CV-27), during the Battle for Leyte Gulf on 25 October 1944.
