(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant, Junior Grade [then Ensign] James R. McCafferty, United States Navy, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as Officer in Tactical Command of Motor Torpedo Boats ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-SEVEN (PT-137) and ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-EIGHT (PT-138), in the New Guinea area, on the night of 22 May 1944. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
