Campion, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Torpedo Bombing Squadron ELEVEN (VTB-11), embarked in U.S.S. WASP over the Philippine Islands area on 21 September 1944.
