(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Ensign Robert George Shepherd, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Pilot in Fighting Squadron EIGHTY-EIGHT (VF-88), embarked in U.S.S. YORKTOWN, over Otaru Harbor, on 15 July 1945.
