Dietrich, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Head of the Logistical Plans Division on the Staff of Commander Naval Forces Europe, prior to and during the assault on the French coast on 6 June 1944.
