Magath, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Investigator for, and advisor to, the Surgeon General of the Navy on matters of sanitation and tropical medicine, and as Navy Representative on the Inter-departmental Quarantine Commission, and Navy Quarantine Officer.
