Johnson, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chief Staff Officer on Staff of the Commander of a Transport Division, during the initial assaults on Kwajalein, Emirau, Saipan, Anguar, and Luzon Islands and the Okinawa Gunto, and reinforcement echelons to Leyte and Okinawa during World War II.
