Kniskern, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States in the Preliminary Design Section and later as Head of the Design Branch, Bureau of Ships, from the outbreak of hostilities in 1941 to 11 December 1945.
