The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Motor Machinist’s Mate First Class Lawrence A. Hupertz, United States Naval Reserve, for heroic conduct early on 22 July 1944. Motor Machinist’s Mate First Class Hupertz, at risk of his life, jumped into the Tamar River to rescue another enlisted man who had fallen into the river and was in imminent danger of drowning.
