The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Lieutenant Lester P. Isenberg, United States Naval Reserve, for heroic conduct when the S.S. BANVARD, to which he was attached, was severely damaged and the order to abandon ship given during the advanced landings at Anzio, 26 January 1944. Lieutenant Isenberg voluntarily remained aboard and assisted in fighting fires and restoring light and power. He thereby contributed materially to saving this valuable cargo ship.
