Bureau of Naval Personnel Information Bulletin No. 334 (January 1945)

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Lyman B. Fox, United States Navy, for gallantry in action as a beachmaster during the invasion of Normandy, France, 6 June 1944. Lieutenant Fox survived the sinking of a landing craft, but was wounded in the hand and chest and buried in a rock slide. On three or more occasions he refused evacuation of his beach. Largely due to his efforts, his beach was opened to traffic early on 7 June. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
