The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Commander Lawrence C. Leever, United States Naval Reserve, for gallantry in action Commanding the 7th Beach Battalion during the invasion of Normandy, France, 6 June 1944. Commander Leever landed at the first stage of the assault when the fighting was most severe. Through his leadership and courage, he was able to maintain an efficient traffic to and from the beach. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
