The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Chief Quartermaster Arnold H. Johnson, United States Navy, for heroic conduct while serving aboard a United States Submarine during war patrols in enemy controlled waters during World War II. During his vessel’s first three war patrols in enemy waters, Chief Quartermaster Johnson displayed great courage under fire and efficiently performed his duties. He contributed in large measure to the sinking or damaging of an important amount of Japanese shipping.
