The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Junior Grade Lloyd Nicholas (NSN: 0-156322), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while flying a Torpedo Bomber during an attack on Japanese shipping in the Truk Lagoon on 17 February 1944. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Nicholas pressed home his attacks at perilously low altitude, despite intense anti-aircraft fire. His fighting spirit contributed in large measure to the destruction and damage of many Japanese ships.
