    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant Junior Grade Richard G. Johnson (NSN: 0-129729), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a fighter pilot during the attacks on Tarawa and Wake Island, September to October 1943. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Johnson destroyed on Japanese bomber on the ground. On another occasion, when attacked by hostile fighters he promptly took the initiative and shot down two more.
