The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Willis H. Folkedahl (NSN: 0-240673), United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while taking part in an eight-plane strike against Japanese shipping off the Mariana Islands on 20 June 1944. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Folkedahl defied enemy fighter plane opposition and took his torpedo bomber through withering anti-aircraft fire to press home an attack at point-blank range on a 15,000 ton Japanese carrier, scoring an effective hit.
