The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal (Posthumously) to Seaman Second Class Wilfred Jay Hull (NSN: 6669236), United States Naval Reserve, for heroic conduct during World War II. When a plane from his carrier crashed on deck, he unhesitatingly rushed to the aid of the pilot. Before he could reach the trapped flier, the plane burst into flames, spraying him with burning gasoline. He was fatally injured.
