John Currier was commissioned through the Officer Candidate School in 1976, and designated a Naval Aviator the following year. With over 6000 flight hours in Coast Guard and Navy fixed and rotary wing aircraft, before retiring he was the “Ancient Albatross,” or the longest serving Coast Guard Aviator on active duty. He served as Vice Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard from May 2012 to May 2014, and retired as a U.S. Coast Guard Vice Admiral in 2014.
