The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Wesley N. Miller, United States Navy, for gallantry in action as Officer of the Armed Guard aboard the S.S. EZRA MEEKER, en route from Oran to Casablanca, July to August 1943. Lieutenant Miller fought off 25 bombers which attacked the ship, and shot down four of the planes. He contributed greatly to the spirit which enabled his ship, stalked by torpedoes and shaken by explosions, to survive a perilous journey with minimum damage. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
