Bureau of Naval Personnel Information Bulletin No. 323 (February 1944)

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Seaman First Class Marion L. Williams, United States Navy, for gallantry in action during the occupation of Attu, Territory of Alaska, during World War II. As Landing Boat Coxswain from a warship, Seaman First Class Williams received an urgent request from the troop commander for special artillery and ammunition. He and a comrade volunteered for the mission, made a successful trip through the enemy-guarded Holtz Bay to the front line destination and assisted in the evacuation of critical casualties on the return trip. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
