The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Boatswain’s Mate First Class John W. Willis, United States Navy, for heroic action on 28 June 1943. When one of his comrades from the U.S.S. CASCADE fell over the side, Petty Officer First Class Willis dived in and succeeded in getting the man aboard a whaleboat, despite the man’s dazed and frantic opposition. His quick action undoubtedly saved the man’s life.
