The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Commander John M. Krause, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States during World War II. As Naval Member of a U.S. Military Mission in Cayenne, French Guiana, Lieutenant Commander Krause used tact and understanding in his handling of the many diplomatic problems involved, and achieved distinctive success in that exacting post.
