The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Commander Denys W. Knoll, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Fleet Meteorologist in the Philippine Islands from 5 November 1941 to 11 March 1942. Commander Knoll merged the various weather services scattered over the Philippines, Netherlands, East Indies, and Malaya, setting up a unified organization of inestimable value to the prosecution of the war in that area.
