The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Otto B. Wandrie, Jr., United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States during the occupation of French Morocco on 12 November 1942. With his ship, the U.S.S. EDWARD RUTLEDGE sinking under him, Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Wandrie worked tirelessly providing the proper medical assistance to wounded men. His resourcefulness and perseverance undoubtedly helped prevent a greater loss of life.
