The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Radioman Third Class Harry Hackett Ferrier, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as rear-seat gunner of a Torpedo Plane in the Battle of Midway on 4 and 5 June 1942. Radioman Third Class Ferrier effectively manned his gun during the initial attack upon an enemy aircraft carrier, under a terrific barrage of fire from numerous Japanese fighter planes and anti-aircraft batteries.
