The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Motor Machinist’s Mate First Class Howard Martin Boll (NSN: 2999737), United States Navy, for heroism on 24 October 1944 near the Philippine Islands. After his ship had been hit by a bomb from an enemy aircraft, and it had become necessary to enter the water, he went to the aid of an injured shipmate and, without regard for the added risk of himself, supported him in the water until both were rescued. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
