The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class Nicholas Virgil Annucci (NSN: 5641479), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight against enemy forces on 25 October 1944, east of the Philippines. During a successful torpedo attack on an enemy battleship, he did by his extraordinary coolness in observation materially aid his pilot in pressing home the attack successfully and in retiring through heavy and accurate anti-aircraft fire. He also made possible very accurate estimates of damage inflicted on the enemy. His courage and skill were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
