The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant John H. Andrews (NSN: 0-112303), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights in operations against Japanese held bases in the vicinity of Nansei Shoto. As a pilot of a carrier-based plane during the period 9 April 1945 to 8 May 1945. Lieutenant Andrews completed twenty flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
