Flick, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on 30 June 1966, while engaged as leader of the second division of the attack element of A-4 aircraft in an important strike against the Bac Giang petroleum storage area twenty miles northeast of Hanoi, North Vietnam.
