Donnelly, United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as leader of the second attack element against the Lu Phong Army Barracks, near the Hon Gay Naval Base in North Vietnam, on 22 May 1966.
