The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Elmer D. Anderson (NSN: 0-86040), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Patrol Plane Commander. During the Aleutian Islands Campaign, 1 – 15 June 1942, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Anderson flew in numerous night patrols in weather which normally would be considered extremely dangerous and participated in bombing attacks on ships in Kiska Harbor against concentrated air and anti-aircraft opposition. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
