The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Carl H. Amme, Jr. (NSN: 0-77178), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Patrol Plane Commander on 31 August 1942. Lieutenant Amme participated in a second bombing attack on a Japanese submarine off Nazan Bay and later led the U.S.S. REID to the scene which enabled that ship to sink the submarine. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
