(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Virgil Eugene Barton (ASN: 35900924), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Company A, 49th Armored Infantry Battalion, 8th Armored Division, in action against an armed enemy in Germany, on 12 April 1945. His personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 8th Armored Division, and the United States Army.
