(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Technician Fifth Grade Richard J. Adley, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action against a hostile force while serving as a Medical Aidman with Company G, 2d Battalion, 377th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of Mannibois Woods, France, on 9 November 1944. Technician Fifth Grade Adley disregarded his personal safety and repeatedly crossed mine fields exposing himself to enemy observation and heavy enemy fire to reach wounded men and skillfully treat them, relieving them from pain and saving many lives. His unquestionable valor in close combat is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the 95th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
