    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Commodore (MC) John Clausel Adams (NSN: 0-12748), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Flight Surgeon in charge of the Division of Aviation Medicine in the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery during the periods of national emergency and World War II. By the application of his knowledge of aviation medicine and his far sightedness, he personally contributed to the procurement and training of a sufficient number of medical aviation personnel to meet the needs of the rapid expansion of Navy and Marine Corps aviation. The close liaison which he maintained with the Bureau of Aeronautics, Army Air Corps, and civilian aviation activities and the scientific knowledge which he made available to these organizations contributed greatly to the many advancements in aviation and increased personnel safety factors. His valued assistance helped to make possible the air evacuation of Navy and Marine Corps casualties. He was personally responsible for the high level aviation medicine has attained in the Navy.
