Clapp, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving with Composite Squadron THIRTY-FIVE (VC-35), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 1 May 1951.
