The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Robert E. Bennett (NSN: 0-506686), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of an attack bomber attached to Attack Squadron ONE HUNDRED NINETY-FIVE (VA-195), aboard the U.S.S. PRINCETON (CVL-37), in torpedo attacks on the Hwachon Reservoir Dam near Hwachon, Korea, on 1 May 1951. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bennett with exceptional skill and complete disregard for his own personal safety, made successful torpedo attacks against the Hwachon Reservoir Dam and scored an effective hit, although the attack had to be executed over extremely rough terrain and in the face of intense enemy anti-aircraft fire. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Bennett then proceeded to the vicinity of Kap’yong, Korea, and made repeated bombing and strafing attacks against enemy troops and gun positions in direct support of United Nations ground forces, aiding materially their advance in that area. His courageous efficiency and unswerving devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
